Printing on Fabric!!!

Okay you guys, I'm super excited!  Why, you ask?  Well, I just figured something out that opens up a world of ideas!  Maybe it's something you already know how to do, but there's got to be some of you out there that this will be new and fresh for, so here goes!  I just learned how I can send fabric through my inkjet printer.  Yeah.  It's awesome!  It's really easy, and doesn't break your printer (which the hubby is happy about, by the way).  All you need is fabric, an iron, and that good-old, handy freezer paper.  And a piece of 8.5" x 11" paper for tracing.  Sorry, I didn't take any during pictures, but it's pretty darn easy, you don't really need them.

All you do is rip off a piece of freezer paper, trace the 8.5" x 11" paper onto it, and then cut it out.  Place the rectangle of freezer paper shiny-side down onto the wrong side of your fabric (you want the paper to adhere to the backside so that the front of your fabric is the side that is printed on).  Using an iron, press the paper to the fabric.  Cut out the rectangle of paper/fabric.  Now all you have to do is run your stabilized fabric through your printer, and you can print anything onto it that you can print onto paper!  Awesome!!!

That being said, I wouldn't try running thick fabric or something like fleece through your printer.  I can't imagine that would produce very good results for your fabric or your printer.

Word of advice: Don't print on something that you will eventually wash or get wet; the ink washes right off!

So here's what I printed!  Boring, yes, but so darn cool!

How great would this be for printing patterns right onto the fabric???  The ink washes away, so you'd never see the pattern lines!  Nice!
I'm surprised with the quality of the letters.  There are endless ways to use this trick!  It's probably something that's been known by you craftier folks out there, but I'm still so excited to know this!  So many possibilities!!!
