Beaded, Braided Necklace

I love it when I see something I like, can give it my own twist, and it's not completely complicated. This necklace is one of those things:

Finished Necklace!

I saw this necklace on Old Navy's site, and while it's not the same, it did give me the inspiration for my version:

To make one, you just need a few things:

  • 9 strips of fabric, cut to desired length and width; my strips were 25" long by 1/2" wide.
  • wooden beads (mine are from the dollar store)
  • string
  • hot glue or needle and thread
Simple stuff, right?  Start by cutting out your fabric strips...

Step 1

...and braid them up.  Nine strips = three braids.  Probably didn't need to clarify that.  Oh well. :)  Once they're braided, take your string and tie the ends on one side together, and trim off the excess fabric.

Step 2

Now string on your beads.  My string was about 24" long, which gave enough excess for tying the ends.

Step 3

Once your beads are strung, tie the ends like the other side.

Step 4

To cover up those knots and ends, wrap a small piece of leftover fabric around the ends and either hot glue it in place, or sew it with needle and thread.

Step 5

That was pretty easy, right?  My favorite thing about this necklace is that you can spin it around and wear it whichever way you feel like.

Maybe feeling a little undecided? Hahaha :)
